I always stand up for what I believe in and what is right even if it means standing alone...In life standing up for your rights is never easy but it is very important to embark on this Long and difficult path to enforce and protect your individual and consumer rights.We all must be aware of our rights.In exercising our rights are we truly free individuals.

I have won many long customer battles against Banks,Phone Companies, Airlines, Electronics Companies etc. I have devoted time and energy to demand positive resolutions for myself and people around me. I hate it when one is denied what every customer has a right to...and that is when I find it important to address it and complain about it. I know it takes time to escalate matters but somehow I prefer to address it no matter what. Having lived in America for sometime, I give a lot of importance to Individual Rights.

It is my nephew who inspired me to write this blog. He felt the importance of his rights and the need to address this subject in a blog very early in age when he was unhappy with the services of a certain Airline. It was then that he suggested that I should write a blog concerning such matters too.

Everyone has certain rights but we are usually not informed about them or do not exercise them. We have a right to be heard...and we must never forget that. There is One Right for All and None should be discriminated. One has the right to question and a right to information. With growing middle class touch 400 million and consumerism, Indian Companies need to become responsive to Consumer complaints and grievances. Ignoring such complaints could lead to big financial losses for the company on consumer complaints being upheld by Consumer Courts.

In this blog, I would like us to share our knowledge about how best to address our complaints effectively as a customer or consumer. It is also important to inform people about the poor customer services provided by reputed brand names. But I would also like to hi-light the names of companies and brands who have co-operated with customers and given positive responses. Please do share your experiences too.

You do not win every battle in life but you learn lessons from it and hopefully live to win it some day. Through this blog ,I would like to inspire people to stand up for their rights and if needed fight for it but the fight for your rights has to be fair and honest. I aim to create a direction and awareness for people who are not given their due rights as an individual first and then as a consumer. There are always solutions and there are way to reach those solutions or alternatives as customers through proper channels.

Whenever you have been able to get your rights heard, you should generously share that knowledge as how best to achieve that so that others could follow that too. Pay it forward ! We should share knowledge and in doing so we will learn more from each other. Alone you can stand up for your rights but with people behind you and with you , there will be more force in it and consumers and customers will not be taken for granted. United we stand in getting value for our hard earned money...United we stand in ensuring we get good customer service.

When there is a will there is a way. When you stand up for your rights and for others , somebody will listen to you sooner or later. Your voice will be heard ! But for that you have to speak out ! Silence can sometimes be mistaken as weakness or indifference. Always know your rights and request for those rights to be implemented but if they are not then demand that justice be served.

CB2- An elegant store

 Fourth street, Berkeley is a fashionable shopping area. There are lots of high ended shops and boutiques. Amongst them CB2 really stands out as the store is a portrait of elegance. From the moment one steps in this sophisticated shop, one is enveloped in the warmth and sheer elegance of the decor. 

I just love this shop and would highly recommend this shop on the Fourth Street to people who want to have a tasteful decor in their houses. The price may be expensive for some but it is worth having one of their things from their furniture collection. Each piece of furniture stands out because of its original and artistic form. I loved the finish and texture of the wooden items as well as the fabric of the upholstery. I liked their lamps and rugs  too. 

They have a nice collection of black marble candles bowls that are quite fashionable make great gifts to give to people on special occasions . 

The store spells luxury but there are lots of stuff that could be within the reach of your budget too particularly the smaller items. Anyway with things like these , it is certainly worth working towards owning something from their collection. It is certainly worth the wait to own something from CB2!

When I visited the store, there were some great saving offers too on things like cake server sets and stylish cake stands. So you could save to buy something from such a lovely store because it us worth the wait ! Most of all it adds pleasure to living when you are surrounded by such stylish things from CB2 at your home. 

The customer service experience was pleasant. What I liked was that they were open and friendly as well as gave you space to check out the store at your own lace. I for one love to have space when shopping. Another thing that I liked was that they were not minding people sitting on their chairs and sofas outside as long as they liked. That is quite a unique and best way to do live advertising of your store. I think there is this really positive vibe in that store which I would like to bring back to my home in the form of one of their creations. Their collections of things will appeal to every age and household . Their creations are culturally relatable and can be adapted to any home. 

I enjoyed giving a review of this store because it truly was a lovely experience. Insisting this store. I would go back there time and again to be inspired to buy artistic things and elegant furniture. If nothing else, just visiting the store is highly recommended. You may not buy something right away but you will find something to hope to buy in the future.

Extra Space Storage, Milpitas,CA, United States-Best Storage place !

Customer service experience was very pleasant and professional. I spoke with three managers at your different branches and actually met one in person. All were lovely to interact with and very supportive. They were very courteous , patient and interactive. They all were flexible and were willing to go a step forward to give me personalized customer service . They all contributed greatly in my reaching the right decision about selecting Extra Space Storage ! They were willing to adapt to my needs about a later move in date and reserving a space or two that suited me so as to give me some time to decide.  My compliments to Melissa ,Anna and Mark(if I remember his name correctly). I did not have the pleasure to meet Melissa in person but she provided great customer service experience over the phone and understood my needs completely. She was so courteous and welcoming that on that day itself I had decided that I would want to have association with her company.  Her follow up on things was great and she gave good advice regarding convenient upgrading of storage space online itself on the day of move-in and explained the process since the office was closed on the day of my move-in of luggage . That made me feel secure that I could  easily change my storage space in minutes if at the last moment my storage unit was not able to accommodate all my luggage. 

Melissa also gave me timely and valuable advice about timely securing of the storage unit I was interested in by locking the rate so that I didn’t lose that unit to someone else. I am thankful to her for that as well as following up on my requests and meeting my needs.  She also ensured that the decided moving in date as well as the rate agreed by the manager on duty that day was honoured by ensuring the pro rating of the rent of the unit as promised which spoke of her co operation and co ordination with not only her colleague but with the customer too. I valued that she stood by the commitment. Ahe valued me as a customer. Anna was the manager I met in person the first time I visited extra space storage since Melissa was on leave that day and even she provided excellent customer service experience. Anna was professional, helpful and understood my needs completely too. She devoted time in making me feel comfortable about making the right selection for myself and offered many options as well as choices by giving my brother and I a tour of the units we were interested in. I wanted a unit close to the elevator and she showed exactly what I wanted . Anna gave great advice about the size of the storage that would accurately fit my needs and best accommodate my luggage which demonstrates that she had great knowledge about her work and she knew how to completely match the needs of the customer. Anna advised me in details about the various ongoing specials and offered me various options for the sizes of units I was interested in  . 

Both Anna and Melissa informed me about how like apartments the market could sometimes fluctuate the rate of the storage units as well which was knowledge for me. But they also advised how I could be protected from the raise in rent.  What I liked was their transparency. They were there to help me at a time when one was already stressed out with the move out of an apartment. I felt that they really value their customers and so I have recommended Extra Space Storage to so many in my circle and one of my friends rented out a storage unit there too soon after that. I just wish though that there was some reward for referring others to this great storage space.

 I loved how Extra Space Storage is so well maintained and spotlessly clean ! It is also so conveniently located and the security can be relied upon too. The one I chose is a newer one and was very attractive and the layout of the units was great. Extra Space storage made me feel at home and made me feel that I am leaving my luggage at home only. I would recommend them to everyone as they can be easily trusted yo keep your luggage safely.

Right 2 Safety & Protection

 

Enough is Enough !!! We are not doing enough to provide a safe environment in schools. Children shouldn't have to live in fear ! Children should be living a life free from violence, grief and fear !  It is time to act and take the right stand ! Take the right action to initiate stringent action against gun violence ! 

My heart goes out to the families of all those precious lives that were tragically lost in the recent firing in an elementary school. Innocence of children has been massacred as they had to witness and experience such a terrifying incident which will scar them for lives and will instill insecurity forever. Innocent young lives were destroyed ! Great selfless teachers lost their precious lives in protecting your children. 

It is time for parents now to act firmly in safeguarding their children and taking huge steps to ensure protection of their children in schools and streets !  Time for All to take the Right Stand against against gun violence ! Nowhere is safe enough now even for adults leave alone children ! Time to protect our children and ourselves ! The right action has to be taken to prevent such violence around us. Gun violence is not only happening in schools but on streets, places of worship, grocery stores, freeways etc. Seriously what kind of  world are we creating around us ? What kind of life are we giving to our children !? Gun laws have to be questioned ! We have a right to feel safe in our communities. We have a right to a violence free life...

Create a difference and contribute to creating a safe environment at schools! 

 AAJ SE BULLY BANDH! People who have gone through similar experiences anywhere in the world would know how traumatic it is to be assaulted and bullied in school! Often the attacker goes unpunished! Accountability has to be fixed on the person who attacked Shaan as well all those who supported the bully including the children who cheered on while all this was happening! The school cannot ignore this!

Like Emirates, United Airlines etc., Lufthansa should also extend the validity of current miles as well as extend unused miles from before from the time COVID-19 actually started till date since during these times of world health crisis it has been difficult to travel ! It would be wonderful if Lufthansa did that too since it is always so nice to fly with them. This would certainly encourage people to start their travels with them again.

During such difficult and trying times the last thing on our mind was to spend miles even on gift cards leave alone travel since flights were not operating on so many sectors. There were lockdowns due to COVID-19 and only a few airlines were operating from certain countries or on certain sectors for a long time. Therefore, our miles could not be used due to circumstances beyond our control.

All airlines have been sensitive enough to extend that courtesy of extending miles ,vouchers, airline awards etc. during the times of pandemic. Our unused or expired miles have been automatically extended in our online accounts with other airlines . As of now awaiting the same king gesture from Lufthansa.

Apple Support- Not all that supportive

 

And so I was told that I might need to go in for a new iPad since it was concluded that servicing also may not restore my iPad since they may not have parts for such an old iPad. I was told that there may be something wrong with the hardware or that the new software update of 10.3.4 is not compatible with my so-called old IPad 4.  

So basically, in other words, it was decided by Apple Support that the problem cannot be fixed. I proved Apple support wrong! My question was why would you send me a message to update my iPad to 10.3.4 if it was felt that it would not be compatible with my iPad and would encounter definite errors while updating it. I would have thought that before sending us a message to update to the new version, a reputed company like theirs would test and try their new software on old devices thoroughly and in detail to ensure that no errors occur.    

 I was so hoping that by calling Apple Support, my problem would be resolved based on the detailed report I gave them about the problems I encountered while updating and restoring my iPad through iTunes. But I was disappointed to find that not much was done at all to work around the problem or even try to address it effectively. It is like the Apple support team in America is just there to advise you to take your device to the nearest Apple store or third-party store for servicing at an expensive price or to motivate you to purchase a new Apple device instead. Their Asia Pacific Support team is much better because at least they try to work at it with you and follow up on it if they can't resolve the issue right away. At least that is the experience I had with their team in Singapore.   

My iPad was totally locked and was not even getting restored to factory settings leave alone getting updated.

Anyway as determined as I am, I didn't give up! Persistence is the key! So I kept on at it and for two days desperately tried several times to update and restore my iPad through iTunes by repeatedly trying all that I could based on the information available online through deep research of various websites and user experiences. It was actually quite frustrating! But I did not want to buy a new iPad or even try to send it for servicing at $250 or something when there was no guarantee that it would be restored. Moreover, this was a gift from my parents and so all the more I wanted it to be fixed. 

Fortunately, I had created a backup on iTunes but even during the backup process there all my photos were not getting included in the backup right away. So I had to devote a lot of time and energy to resolve several issues and errors in what is usually a fast process. As of late, the Apple servers are not as reachable at all times as it is. But I kept repeating the process of rebooting both devices, unplugging them several times, turning off the security software as well as disabling the firewall for some time to avoid blockers of any kind, trying different USB ports etc. This all happened despite the iTunes that I have on my laptop being the latest version. 

At one time, I even thought that the USB cable may be damaged since in the device connectivity test on iTunes, it reflected as "no iPad found" under the 'Ports' section. iTunes was not acknowledging or recognizing my iPad for some reason and was displaying error 6 every time I tried updating or restoring it even to factory settings. But I kept trying it over and over again! 

I even read somewhere that this could be because of third-party security software. Somewhere it said to check host files too because after that sometimes it may or may not recognize the device. Another option was to temporarily remove security software to isolate the issue but they don't uninstall completely and I did not feel like doing a clean-up on my computer. So it went on and I read a lot about the error I was encountering and it certainly increased my knowledge. I may not be working in the technical field but years back I did Web Designing with E-commerce which has left some technical impressions on me. But what do others do who do not have the time, patience, or technical knowledge to resolve such a problem on their own but cannot rely on the much-needed support from the Apple support team? 

And after much persistence did I finally receive the desired result! And so I did it at last! I fixed my iPad and was allowed access to it. I could restore my iPad from the saved backup to the way it was before and that too with the latest update! It took time, patience, research, and will to resolve this on my own. Army brats don't give up that easily! Two days of persistence & not giving up come whatever may... 

But I wish one could look up to the support team to work together with the customers to make their products work. As a traditional thinking customer, I want to deal with a company that offers me lifetime support and extended warranties of products. I would want the products to work a lifetime like the Hitachi products or other Japanese products that we bought in the 80s  since I don't like to keep buying new devices and discarding the old ones.

 Apple should work together with its customers to repair them. Somehow I get the feeling that Apple's concept is to discard old devices for the new ones because of compatibility issues or update issues with old devices which I don't subscribe to. That may be the reason that parts are not easily available to repair old devices though in India I know people who can repair any device and for a much cheaper rate. The new software should be able to be updated easily on old devices too.  

 I wish Apple would offer long-time support to customers as people like me would value that. Without it, I am not that keen on buying their products however famous they may be. For that reason to date, I am debating between purchasing an iPhone and a Samsung phone. Let's see if I am motivated and convinced enough to go for an iPhone. Actually, I don't find Apple devices reliable at times since my photos and notes keep disappearing from the device on their own and after months resurface from somewhere again on their own. Many I know have faced the same problems. I hope Apple can resolve such issues. But above all their product management and customer support area need refining.

Professional Complaint Management by Xfinity/Comcast Representative

 

 It is so important to keep checking your utility bills to ensure that you are not being overcharged. The other day I realized that I was charged around $86 or so extra on my upcoming bill with Xfinity. 

All this confusion may have been created due to the lack of co ordination between departments. Already there were extra charges during the time my plan was on seasonal hold when I was outside the country and later the end of the previous contract as well as the transition into a new TV/Internet plan added to the confusion and there were charges ( which included equipment charges, shipping & handling charges etc.)  that were not supposed to be there as per the assurances of the previous representatives and escalation manager that I had spoken with since I was not supposed to be charged for rental of modem in my package. So all the more I was shocked and irritated when I saw the bill and called Xfinity right away. After much time and working around the IVR to get connected to an agent, I managed to get in touch with the Loyalty Dept.

 It was time consuming but I went over each and every charge on the bill with this wonderful lady Erendira (Employee Id 3578806) who was so patient, empathetic and supportive. She ensured that the charges were removed and even gave me her employee Id # for reference to our conversation should there be any bill related problems later. After long I enjoyed a pleasant customer service and was so impressed by her professionalism. Now that is the kind of customer service I would have given to my guests had I still been working as a Manager at the Hotel. I always feel that it is so important for customers to receive smooth and refined customer service and they are entitled to it. And lately Xfinity/Comcast is doing a great job and all their employees are being supportive and understanding particularly during COVID times. They are trying to be flexible and have been waiving off certain fees or giving credits. The same cannot be said about AT&T or PG&E for that matter since their representatives are displaying lack of interest and arrogance in dealing with customers recently.

Xfinity representatives seem to be well trained and are adding an extra touch to the customer service experience. Of course their packages could be slightly lower price wise during pandemic times. But they are ready and willing to correct a problem to retain you as a customer. Like their escalation manager Jacob said that customers are always welcome to contact with them should they have a problem as there is nothing that can't be fixed ! His words were very deep and meaningful. Now that is the sort of customer service interaction one looks for ! 

All their representatives have been great and my compliments to them ! I may not remember all their names. But still I try to write down their names and employee id so that I could write about the experience in my blog after taking their permission . The least we can do is to give them the much deserved recognition and applaud them for working hard to give us good customer service even in these stressful times ! I was able to enjoy a pleasant customer interaction with Xfinity because of Erendira who is an asset to her company! People like her make the brand name popular !

Xfinity services- Makeover required !


Xfinity/Comcast services are not that satisfactory as of late in the sense that they are  communication gaps between them and their customers and they are lost in translations when it comes to asking them technical questions about their products.

While their technicians and customer care representatives are usually courteous and pleasant, some of them are not able to answer questions or resolve issues accurately concerning devices. For long I had been calling them regarding connectivity and signals issues which was ultimately addressed by a technician but only to lose signal again at several intervals during the following days.

Moreover it took several calls to confirm that there is troubleshooting with my TV Box (X1) since it is not connecting with Netflix. Initially I was told that my X1 box does not support Netflix but today on logging into my account and talking to a knowledgeable customer care representative could we finally be on the same page and it was at last confirmed that the TV Box in question was in fact Netflix compatible. He tried to rest from his end by sending a fresh signal and momentarily it worked ! Hopefully they are able to resolve the issue effectively soon.  

But it is essential to keep on at it and ask questions regarding your services and devices. Other than that I have been one of their loyal customers. But AT&T is also offering more flexible, reasonable and flexible options with no binding contracts on cable connections with a host of channels to choose from. Some of their plans are not even charging the monthly rentals for devices.

Uber Trips Charges & Receipts- Review them Always !


Always review your Uber trips charges by going to "My Trips" and clicking on the trip concerned.

Lately I noticed that I had been charged $5.00 every time when Drivers cancelled instead of I. Most times drivers would end up coming to the wrong location or cancel for a reason of their own. Either way we as customers should not be charged in such situations. So one must dispute that .

If you feel you were charged incorrectly, you must contest it. They will not credit it back to your credit card account but they will certainly return it as credit to your Uber account which you can use for an upcoming trip. All the same I feel that they should credit it to your bank account.

Citibank's Disputed Transactions Dept. - Rigid approach has no value for Truth !


As I have been saying, the truth never works with Citibank U.S. ! In a matter of disputed transactions, it never pays to tell them the truth by saying that the credit card or debit card was in your possession at the time. They might reimburse money to you in a situation of identity theft, scam or fraudulent transaction ONLY if you claim even if falsely that the debit or credit card was not in your possession. They do not want to hear beyond that because they do not have time or patience to treat each case differently or consider exceptions where the fraudulent transaction may involve other serious circumstances.
They do not even want to consider cases where a case is a combination of identity theft and scam.  Basically they just do not want to put an effort into investigating cases. Also however fast you may be in reporting a fraudulent activity or dispute a transaction, their delayed action will cost you. They will make you wait endlessly anywhere between 45 minutes to around an hour and a half specially in the evenings to connect you to the Disputes Dept. to report fraud and scam concerning the account or transaction. They will not even try to help you in blocking a transaction even if it is in pending mode.There is lack of co-ordination between their departments too. Sometimes one department of the bank closes a matter even before a case manager can address it or research on it.
Always be prepared that Citibank U.S will not provide you immediate cash assistance even though provisional in times of loss of money. They are not reliable when it comes to that kind of immediate support which other banks may provide in these situations. Citibank U.S will never demonstrate sensitivity to you in times of emergency where your account may be affected due to identity theft. In general Citibank as a bank anywhere has a very rigid and insensitive approach towards it's customers.  And their rigidity and arrogance reflects in the tone and attitude of their representatives and staff too. Therefore think twice before banking with them ! 

Citibank U.S - Unpleasant Banking Experiences


Citibank U.S is the most rigid bank I have come across. From the beginning their services have not been good. The first time I issued a cheque from a sufficiently funded  account with them, they provided problems for the person I had issues it to. And unnecessarily because of them I had to pay a fine to the Management of the apartment I rented out. While issuing a cheque from another Bank here for the first time never poses a problem. They do not even agree to give a credit card. I had to get a credit card from another bank even though my entire salary was going to Citibank.

Also, Citibank's phone banking in U.S  is the worst ! Firstly they do not seem to know about their products or services that well. And they do not greet their customers warmly the way Wells Fargo or any other bank do,. If it were left to them they would want everything to be automated and not deal with the customer at all or resolve the queries. Their approach is not at all positive or interactive. Infact Citibank India performs better than Citibank U.S specially where phone banking is concerned.

One has to wait in line for 45 minutes or even more when you call Citibank U.S  to report a fraudulent activity or scam. The so called research they claim to do on a case is not at all thorough and is incomplete because they do not go into details to check the authenticity of the case. So calling their dispute department regarding identity theft in relation to your card or account is pointless ! Calling their dispute department to report a scam is a sheer waste of time as they will eventually dismiss the case just like that without consulting the video recording at an ATM place or shop. They do not have a proper structure for escalation of complaints where the customer could go higher up to appeal if the customer disagrees with a resolution.

Also I have learnt from my experience that truth never works when dealing with reporting a fraudulent activity to Citibank U.S. because they will always refuse to provide you provisional cash as is the norm in times of such emergency leave alone reimburse you for it. They just want to know whether the card was in your possession or not at the time of the transaction. In today's times fraudulent activities on your debit card could occur even without a physical card .It is just black or white with them. They do not even want to investigate matters even if one attaches a police report when disputing a transaction as a result of identity theft,scam or fraud. On the other hand, other banks like Credit Union Bank always is sensitive to it's customers at a time like this.

I have been doing a kind of informal survey amongst people I know and others regarding the services of Citibank. Most people seem to have the same bad impression of Citibank U.S .

Citibank U.S.A Dispute Dept.- Not easily accessible when reporting fraudulent activity / No support or positive resolution in disputed transactions

Based on feedback and experience with the Citibank Dispute Department in recent times, I would like to comment that they are not at all easily reachable in times of emergency. In fact, I have been thoroughly disappointed with their phone banking system . One has to call them so many times during a serious situation regarding a disputed transaction.  The delay causes customers much inconvenience . To start with they make you wait as long as 45 mins. most times. I tried to report an issue to them while the transaction mode still reflected pending and right after reporting it to the merchant. I even followed it up by giving them the case number of the police complaint thinking that would make a difference.

Citibank's approach is quite insensitive and rigid.  There is total lack of co-ordination and the facts you provide are not related accurately on record which results in your being denied a favorable resolution.  They just want to close the case as fast as possible without actually researching it well. And that is what happened. While Citibank India at least has better phone banking services and you are heard out there and they provide support immediately specially when you want to withold a transaction or in any other matter. Even Wells Fargo bank here has a much more positive and personalized approach in their interactions over the phone or at branches.

 Truth holds no value when relating the facts concerning a transaction you want to dispute where Citibank U.S is concerned. All they see is whether the card was in your possession or not. Other circumstances like the ones related to scams or identity thefts are not even correctly investigated by them even if you provide them a copy of a police report. They just don't want to cover such cases. And they don't even give provision cash while waiting for a resolution. While other local banks are much better and sensitive in their dealings with their customers according to the feedback I gathered in this last month. People who dispute transactions even concerning transactions that are  identity theft or scam related are offered full support and compensation at other banks. Perhaps just saying that the card was not in your possession at the time of transaction works better for them in providing you with compensation rather than hearing facts and details. I wonder if they even really research the details the customer provides them regarding a disputed transaction. I believe that people who hold Discover cards are covered and protected in fraud related incidents.

My experience with them this past year has not been satisfactory. Wells Fargo provides pleasant banking experience in contrast.

The customer service at the Nike store and Banana Republic in the factory outlets of Napa is worthy of  compliments ! Their staff is very pleasant, helpful and patient specially when dealing with senior citizens. They have good knowledge of the products they are selling. The personalised and caring customer service there makes one want to go back for shopping there every time ! 

Trader Joes Bel Aire Plaza, Napa- Treasures from around the world


It is absolutely delightful to do shopping in Trader Joes's as it hosts a very good collection of spices, sauces etc. from different parts of the world. They have an interesting selection of things in the Indian and Oriental section. I particularly like their ginger & mango chutney in the Indian section and the Oriental sweet & spicy sauce. They offer a wide choice of toffees and chocolates from other countries. One feels like one is on a treasure hunt because one always finds something valuable ! I particularly like their organic foods & ice-creams, snacks and spices. They sell good saffron and ginger powder too. One can never go wrong when shopping there as one always gets what one is looking for specially organic and healthy !

Target at Bel Aire Plaza Napa


Overall Target believes in providing great customer service ! They trust their customers and have a flexible return policy of products specially those that are damaged or tampered with. They are constantly trying to ensure that the customers have pleasant shopping experience. One can see how they make efforts to improve  the layout of things every now and then to make it easier for the customers to shop. Recently their Home and Electronic section has added a lot of interesting items. And they have a nice collection of greeting cards.
